Good Hand Hygiene
As the COVID-19 or coronavirus infection spreads rapidly in many communities, we need to do our part in slowing or stopping the spread of this virus. This will help to protect us and the people around us.
For hand hygiene, here are the most important things we should do at home or at work:
1. HAND WASHING
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating. Dry your hands with a disposable towel.
2. HAND SANITIZING
If soap and water are not readily available, you can also use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Please make sure to wet all surfaces of the hands and rub them until dry.
3. CLEANING AND DISINFECTING
We need to routinely disinfect surfaces and objects that are frequently touched. These include door handles, phones, remotes, light switches, countertops, etc. You can use disinfectant sprays or wipes. You can also use diluted household bleach solutions by mixing: 5 tablespoons (1/3 cup) bleach per gallon of water, or 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water.
For visibly dirty surfaces, clean first with detergent and water prior to disinfection. Remember to wash or sanitize your hands after cleaning and disinfecting.
4. KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM FACE
It is also important to avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with unwashed hands because this is one way the virus can enter our body.
5. COUGH ETIQUETTE
If you cough, please do not cough into your hands. Instead, cough into your elbow or use a tissue and discard it right away.
